The Portland Art Museum’s (PAM) Rothko Pavilion is an important new addition to the museum’s building campus that both provides a critical link between existing buildings and addresses the many operational and patron/visitor experience objectives sought by the museum. This on-site tour presentation will focus on key drivers that went into the shaping of the building design from early planning/zoning objectives to the technical resolution of the building enclosure. Presentation topics will include the development of the custom glass curtainwall and rainscreen systems, seismic resilience considerations, integration of universal design principles, public involvement during the City’s design review process, and discussion of several lessons learned by the design team.
